In just a few hours we'll be off to Accra, Ghana for our next adventure. We are being sent to Ghana by Imagine Adoption to help this new adoption program from Ghana to Canada. We are hoping that this program will be smoother than our Zambian experience, but we are trying to just go with the flow and and learn from each experience.
We are starting off the experience with a few uncertainties, the first one being that we are unsure of if we will even be allowed into the country. We were under the impression that we could purchase a visitor's visa for Ghana at the Accra airport upon arrival, however, we have recently found out that might not be an option. There is a possibility that we may not be allowed to leave the airport in Ghana and will need to find the next flight out of the country immediately. Apparently the closest country to Ghana that has a Ghanaian embassy for us to get a visa is called Benin....which I have never heard of before, but we may just be visiting for a while.
We also aren't exactly sure what we will be doing once we arrive in Ghana (assuming we do eventually get there). We do know that we will be helping to set up a new orphanage for Hands Of Mercy Orphanage (http://www.handsmercy.com/). They already have one home there with just over 45 children in it, but there is certainly a need for a second home. We will be spending a lot of time playing with the kids as well as helping with the adoption paper work.
This feels like a relatively short visit to Ghana and I'm sure the time will go fast. Right now the average temperature is 32 degrees during the day and 28 degrees at night...so it's a great time to visit and to leave this cold Canadian climate.
Once we are in Ghana and a bit settled we'll try to post a few pictures and write a little update to keep everyone informed.
