Cape Coast

I'm sorry we haven't been updating this blog very regularly lately. I haven't been feeling like we have much to say, but I thought I would share a bit about our weekend getaway to Cape Coast.

We left last Friday morning and we took a 15 seater van to Cape Coast for a nice long weekend. The drive was much better than we expected as the roads were all paved and there wasn't much traffic at all (which is very different than we are used to here).

We arrived in Cape Coast, had a great lunch right on the beach and beside the Cape Coast Castle and then went for a tour of the castle following lunch.

That was an intense experience for us both. This castle was build about 500 years ago and was later used during the slave trading days. On the tour they gave a lot of history and also told a lot of stories from those days. They explained what each of the different rooms were used for, where the slaves were kept, what they did, how they lived, etc. It's hard to believe that something like that ever happened and that humans could treat other humans so poorly. This was certainly an eye opening experience for us both.

After we left the castle we travelled to Elmina where we spent the rest of our weekend, basically just relaxing. We stayed at a hotel right along the beach and it was beautiful. There was also a great pool that we spent a lot of time in too. The food was great, the view was wonderful and we were both very relaxed the whole time.

We came back to Accra to a very busy but productive week. We had some very positive meetings with the Canadian High Commission regarding the immigration process for our adoptive families, as well as a few other great meetings.

We are certainly starting to wind down here in Ghana. We have enjoyed our time and experience here, but we are getting very excited to come home again in less than 3 weeks time!!!
