Lovemore

So we finally have some good news to share and that is that our little Lovemore is now back home with us!

He was in the hospital for 2 weeks and he was dicharged this morning. He is still so small, but he looks better, he even has some cheeks now!

When we first brought him into the hospital 2 weeks ago, this 2 year old boy weighed only 5.5kg and now he is already up to 6.2 kg! You can still see every single bone in his body, but I am hopeful that he is on the right track and will continue to gain weight quickly.

He is supposed to eat every 3 hours all day, and all night and he is mainly eating this high-calorie peanut butter-like substance, created just for extremely malnourished children like Lovemore. Each package has 500 calories..and he is supposed to eat 2.5 packages a day..that's 1250 calories a day, which is an incredible amount for a little one that size, but it's working, so we'll keep at it. He is now also allowed to eat whatever else he wants to, so he's having oranges, mashed potatoes, bananas and milk, so far anyway.

The other kids seem to really like him too, and just can't wait to start playing with him, but I think Lovemore is a little more shy than they are. He can sit up on his own, but can't stand or walk yet, so his play will be limited with the older kids, but I'm sure he'll catch up quickly with lots of food and lots of attention! He looks really scared in these pictures, but we did get a few smiles out of him today, and once he smiles a bit more, I'll send some better pictures along.

I also wanted to say thank you to those of you who prayed for this little guy - he certainly needed it. There were a few days where we weren't sure if he was going to make it, but he is alive and well today and we are so thankful for that fact!
